Veterinary FAQ

FAQs PeakQuine:

1. Are Green Lipped Mussel products safe for horses?

Yes, GLM and PeakMotion have been proven to be safe in horses, however, we cannot guarantee all horses will tolerate the supplement and adverse reactions such as an allergic or anaphylactic response can occur with any oral product.

2. Is GLM palatable to horses?

Our team at PeakQuine has worked hard to create a product that is palatable to our equine patients using peppermint oil as a flavor additive. In palatability trials, 90% of trial patients consumed the product alone, and 100% consumed the product when combined with hay pellets.

3. How does this supplement compare to oral glucosamine products?

Research has shown that oral glucosamine products have low bio-availability in horses. This means that very little of the glucosamine that is consumed, is absorbed and utilized in the body. PeakMotion has been dosed appropriately to reach effective levels for improving the painful effects of osteoarthritis.

4. How does Green Lipped Mussel work?

GLM has anti-inflammatory effects primarily within the carbohydrate component, which is isolated in the PeakMotion product. GLM has shown to be a strong inhibitor of several different matrix metalloproteases.

5. Is PeakMotion safe under USEF and FEI supplemental guidelines?

PeakMotion is formulated with limited ingredients and follows USEF and FEI guidelines, however, it is always the owner’s responsibility to ensure the product is safe for use by reading the ingredient list provided on the packaging.

6. What does GLM do for osteoarthritis pain?

In a randomized, double-blinded placebo-controlled study on efficacy of GLM in horses with chronic fetlock lameness, efficacy was evaluated by assessing lameness grade, passive flexion, pain swelling and heat in the affected joint. The GLM significantly reduced the severity of lameness grade, joint pain, and reduced flexion response associated with osteoarthritis in the fetlock joint.

7. What is different about PeakMotion compared to other supplements on the market?

PeakMotion utilizes the glycoprotein-specific portion of GLM, which is the purest form providing the highest quality product on the market for Equine GLM supplements.

8. How do I know if my horse should take this product?

PeakMotion is designed for all horses as a preventative and supplement to improve pain associated with osteoarthritis. This can be used in horses with active arthritis such as your older horses as well as in younger performance horses to prevent and help manage joint pain.

9. Is PeakMotion safe for long-term use?

Yes, PeakMotion is safe for long term use and can be used as a daily supplement.

10. Does PeakMotion have negative effects on the GI system like NSAIDs do?

Studies in animal models and in humans showed improved gastrointestinal symptoms in osteoarthritis patients taking NSAIDs and GLM concurrently compared to NSAIDS alone. This may indicate a benefit on the GI system in horses.

11. How is GLM processed?

Our green-lipped mussels are sourced exclusively from the pristine waters off New Zealand's coast, where a unique cold-extraction process preserves the critical bioactive carbohydrate component that makes the supplement so effective.
